ART BY THE SEA
Artist: Katharine Burns
Paint Trinity Bay Waves in oil
Join us at the Doctor’s House Inn & Spa for an exclusive opportunity to study wave painting with our world class instructor Katharine Burns. For two days you will experience the serenity and beauty of our facility and grounds, while immersing yourself in the serenity and beauty of your wave painting. Set in our upper barn loft, overlooking the ocean you will work with Katharine to develop your wave techniques for future use.
Katharine will demonstrate her process of creating realistic crashing wave paintings. As she works she will cover tips to develop a greater understanding of colour mixing, composition, paint handling and specifically how to recreate certain elements of a wave like the translucency, spray and and sea foam. Follow along as she takes you through her process from conception to a finished piece.

In this stage of the painting she will show you her techniques to begin refining the wave and adding a sense of “movement” by using specific brushstrokes. Break for dinner.
Evening (Day 1):
Continuing the work covered in the afternoon, Katharine will demonstrate how she begins the third layer of the painting. In this stage of the painting she further refines the painting, focuses on the details, and brings it closer to its finished state.

In the last stage of the painting Katharine will be demonstrating the finer details that bring the wave to life. She will discuss how she decides a painting is finished and briefly cover her varnishing process.
